HOW-TO conduct online research

How?
  • Complete a business proposal to be submitted to NLINKS via e-mail. The business plan that will cover the cost of the web page or pages, maintenance, length of maintenance, and hosting expenses. On the basis of the business plan, you will receive a price and a suggested contract and a statement of indirect coordinator and webmaster costs.
  • Once the business plan is approved by all parties, then the investigators are free to seek institutional IRB approval (if human subjects are to be employed) and funding for their research project.
  • When IRB and funding approval have been obtained, then a copy of the funded proposal and IRB approval is mailed to NLINKS (c/o Dr. M. A. Lavin, NANDA Office, 1211 Locust Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107).
  • Once NLINKS approval is obtained, then the principal investigators are free to proceed with their web design.
Why?
Diagnoses, interventions, and outcomes need to be classified. In addition, they need to be developed in depth and verified by research. Both aspects, classification and the study and testing of diagnoses, interventions, and outcomes are essential to the development of nursing knowledge The systematic organization and retrieval of information focused on one or more diagnoses, interventions, or outcomes links and supports the development of nursing knowledge. This is the purpose and the rationale underlying NLINKS Research Center.

HOW-TO create a NLINKS Center

Who?
Any NLINKS member is eligible to submit a design for a new NLINKS Center.

What?
There are any number of reasons for starting an NLINKS Center. For example, informaticists may want an Informatics Center, taxonomists a Taxonomy Center, standards developers a Standards Center, clinicians a Clinicians Center, educators an Education Center, pain diagnosticians and managers a Pain Center, international colleagues an International Center. These are just a few examples of what kind of Centers may be developed at the NLINKS website.

Where?
NLINKS is currently coordinated by Dr. Mary Ann Lavin for the NANDA Office, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Lavin is an Associate Professor at Saint Louis University. The webmaster is located at Saint Louis University. However, because NLINKS is an online, virtual organization, any NLINKS member from anywhere on the globe may access the site or develop an NLINKS Center.

How?
Steps in developing a Center are as follows:

  • Complete a business proposal to be submitted to NLINKS via e-mail. The business plan that will cover the cost of the web page or pages, maintenance, length of maintenance, and hosting expenses. On the basis of the business plan, you will receive a price and a suggested contract and a statement of indirect coordinator and webmaster costs.
  • Once the business plan is approved by all parties, then the Center developers are free to seek funding for their Center.
  • When funding has been obtained, then a copy of the funded proposal and IRB approval is mailed to NLINKS (c/o Dr. M. A. Lavin, NANDA Office, 1211 Locust Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107).
  • Once NLINKS approval is obtained, then the principal investigators are free to proceed with their web design, assuming they remain in touch with the NLINKS Coordinator also, during the development phase.
Why?
The Centers represent virtual groups of like-minded individuals who are dedicated to one special interest area within the field of language and nursing knowledge and are committed to communicating their interest with the nursing world.
